Creativity: Piano Lessons

Today I received two small booklets from my teacher, which she had long promised. The first booklet contains exercises/studies by Bach and the second contains 25 studies by Heller. During today’s lesson I played the second piece from Heller’s book and the first and second piece from Bach’s book. I need to play the Bach pieces slower and focus on getting the notes correct first before playing the song faster. Though it is a simple piece, it is quite difficult for me because the left hand moves quite independently of the right hand, which is something that I am not used to.

Creativity: Piano Lessons

Today, I played a song from the PPC which is called “Largo” that I still need to greatly work on. I also played the sonatina by Dussek, which I need to work on in the dynamics and tempo. I also am assigned to try out the rondo section, which is the second part, of the same sonatina piece by Dussek.

Service: Habitat for Humanity - Fundraising

Today is the day of the potluck, and we carried out our potluck service program. I helped with the delivering of the ordered items to the homerooms of those who ordered the items.

The potluck service was quite complicated and quite a lot of work. Even so, it was an interesting experience.

Creativity: Piano Lessons

Due to a number of events that have been happening, I have not had regular piano lessons for some time. At today’s lesson, I placed a sonatina by J. L. Dussek, which is no. 1 from opus 20. I also am still playing Humoreske, which I find quite difficult to play because of the moving left hand which always jumps back and forth quite a distance. I need to therefore be more careful about the notes that I sometimes still mess up because of the jumping back and forth. I also played “Amazing Grace” using simple cord patterns, starting in the key G, moving to C, and then finally to F.

Service: Habitat for Humanity - Fundraising

I helped with the selling of a new batch of brownies and peanut butter cookies, which other group members have taken the time to bake.

Afterschool, Jennifer, Chika and myself went to a nearby mall to work on revising the proposal based on feedback that we got back from the principal, including the foods we are allowed and not allowed to sell, other than the brownies and peanut butter cookies which we are allowed to sell. After we worked on the proposal, we also went and started buying the goods that people have ordered for the potluck tomorrow. As the goods mostly consisted of food products, we will have to get them the day of the potluck as they are needed fresh. We did however, manage to buy some of the ordered drinks, as they can keep over night and will still be in good condition tomorrow.

Service: Habitat for Humanity - Fundraising

Today we finished selling the peanut butter cookies and brownies that we have made so far. While we were counting our revenue so far, as well as calculating our profits, we also discussed how things are going so far and our plans for the future. For example, we plan on selling more brownies and peanut butter cookies next week. We are trying to fundraise as much as we can in the limited amount of time we have left before the academic year ends. For example, we talked about creating a servicing program for the upcoming scheduled potlucks. The school has scheduled a time quickly coming in the following week where time has been allocated for the senior school to hold a potluck in our homerooms. We then had the idea of creating a program, where we offer our services, to buy food and drinks from a number of chosen brands for the potluck. Our customers will then pay us the original retail price of the food and drinks that they order through us, plus an extra amount that we will count as our fare, and thus will become our profit.

Habitat for Humanity

Today, I helped with the selling of the brownies and the peanut butter cookies. We mostly approached people during break time, and also did some selling during lunchtime. As we brought the container containing the cookies from class to class, we also managed to sell some cookies to our classmates during the 5-minute break times between classes, especially as there were people who felt hungry or simply wanted a snack.

Service: Habitat for Humanity - Fundraising

Today I baked cookies with Chika and Jennifer at Jennifer’s house for our fund raising program. While we bake the brownies, another group will be baking brownies. We have allocated ourselves, who are part of this Habitat for Humanities fundraising program, into two groups for the purposes of creating food products. We basically divided ourselves in half, mostly based upon where we live, so that it will be quite easy for the members of each group to meet up to create and prepare the food products.

The peanut butter cookies that the group I am in bake today, along with the brownies that the other group are also baking on this day, are the first products that we will be selling around the school to fundraise. Making the cookies was quite a messy, and greasy process, though it was fun. We managed to bake approximately 80 cookies today.
